In terms of mental health and generally speaking, the words strength & resilience are very powerful words. Both terms display how a person can fight through the most challenging moments of their life. In my own words, resilience and strength are the abilities of a person to keep going even when everything in the world is going against them. The ability to keep walking down the path even with the obstacles in the way.
When I think to myself about strength, I think of the two women in my life who are the clear definition of it. The first woman being my grandmother who lost her battle with cancer 15 years ago. I was around the age of 13 when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. When our family was told the devastating news, the entire family was devastated and heartbroken. She was the matriarch of our family and was the glue that kept our family together. Throughout her journey with cancer, she suffered in silence. She never complained about her pain and never said any negative words such as she would rather be dead than to keep going on the treatments. By her 3rd chemo treatment, her medical team told us the cancer would not be going away and would continue advancing. The team told us it would be best to take her home and for her to live her last months in her own home and comfort. With that news, all of my family was tearing up except her. She understood that was her destiny but she continued to give the family the love, strength, and affection in her last months.
Now that I explained to you about the first woman, let me tell you about the second woman that being my mother. My grandmother raised my mother to be a strong, independent, and resilient hardworking woman. Thanks to my grandmother’s support and love, my mother is a good mother who is very loving, hardworking, and dedicated towards her children. Now I’m not saying that either of these women were or are perfect because no human is perfect. We are all flawed in a way. However, both of these women are the definition of resilience and strength because both women overcame the challenges and still gave the love their families deserved.
Now that I’ve told you a little about the two most important women of my life. I would like not only women but hopefully men to take something from this post and apply it to their own lives. It is my hope and dream that these posts help you bring out your resilience and strength.
